Edesse Leger is a 73 year old with Parkinson's. Her paintings and stories are from her mind and eyes. All her stories and paintings are fictional from her imagination. She is a wife, mother of one, grandmother of three, and great-grandmother of three. She worked for 42 years as an optician.
In 1990, she noticed her left side was shaking. She suspected the worse, which was Parkinson's. Edesse's hobbies, crocheting and sewing, did not look very promising and her job was at stake also.
In 1993, she started crocheting with a vengeance, she tried sewing but that was fruitless. In 1995 she was diagnosed with Parkinson's and retired in 1997. She crocheted doilies, doilies, and more doilies. She also made a tablecloth which she gave to her daughter Shelly.
In the fall of 2008 she had to give up her crocheting. Holding the needle and pieces were making her hands hurt. Edesse searched for something else to do. She was not going to curl up and die. She soon found out the Lord was not finished with her yet. Edesse decided to do some coloring. She purchased a beautiful bride coloring book and the biggest box of colors she could find. To her disappointment, she did not like the waxy look of the crayons. So then she tried colored ball point pens which did not last very long. She decided to invest a few bottles of acrylic paints, brushes, and a drawing pad.
It was almost Halloween, and Edesse's gift to her great-grandchildren was going to be painted pumpkins. She notices how her hand flowed when painting the vines. That was just the beginning. She could paint 24/7! She puts it this way - "I would rather paint than eat". 300 paintings later and 25 pounds lighter, she is still painting.
Edesse decided to take a few days off from her painting to write her story for our website. Thanks Edesse!
